This 5.5 x 7.875 inch, 539 page hardcover book is the 1855 first edition of this title as indicated by the 1855 date on the title page and matching the copyright date. This book is in at least very good condition with time-wear showing to the corners of the dark-green cloth covers with elaborate stamped design on front and back panels, and gilt lettering and temple design on the spine. Two of the corners are just barely worn through on the front panel but the cloth covers are in at least very good condition with no real damage beyond the corners and the binding still firm and tight. The interior text shows a previous owner?s penciled name on the front paste-down dated September 20, 1856 - - and the text pages are in at least very good condition with the two frontispiece lithographs, one the Valley of Unna and the second the Taj Mahal - - both protected by a tissue guard and the text pages about near fine with very little foxing and no damage or markings to be seen. Bayard Taylor left behind a number of works on his world travels including his epic work on California during the gold rush period, including the book Eldorado or Adventure in the Path of Empire. 539 pages.
