A series of eight parodies (or burlesques) of Virgil's Aeneid by the French poet, dramatist and novelist Paul Scarron. Published between 1648 and 1653, this fine example of 17th century French comic literature was a major influence on the burlesque writers of Italy, France and England. Contemporary leather binding with raised bands and gilt lettering. 8 engravings and ornaments to pages. Board and flyleaf of Volume II loose, modest foxing and browning to pages, otherwise both volumes in very good condition. 2 vols volumes.
