About this Item
Charming and unusual hand colored engraving from 'Les Fleurs Animes', a collection of 52 illustrations, each with an accompanying story having to do with the interesting notion of reversing the comparison of human emotions to flowers. Flowers are represented in human form; here 'Vigne' represents intoxication. The grape vine is depicted as a woman whose dress is made of large grape leaves and whose arms and forehead are encircled with green tendrils. The broken wine bottle and glass in the foreground represent the dangers of drinking. A small 'drinking' bird at the left holds a small glass of wine. 6 1/2 x 10 1/4". Seller Inventory # 18315
