Friðrik Jónsson Bergmann was an Icelandic-Canadian clergyman of the Icelandic Lutheran Church and taught Icelandic at Wesley College in Winnipeg. The author was an editor, essayist and lecturer. He was editor of the Icelandic-Canadian Journal Aldamot (The Turn of the Century), published from 1891-1903. This journal was sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church but was nevertheless a literary journal, containing lectures and book reviews. When Bergmann, a liberal theologian, parted ways with his more conservative colleagues, he founded the journal, Briedablik (Broad View, 1906-1914). He also wrote, compiled and translated other works.
