At head of title: First Parliament, Third Session. Laws of the Province of Upper Canada. 34th Geo. 3. c. 11. A.D. 1794. [Newark, Upper Canada: Louis Roy, 1794]. Place of printing and name of printer from Gundy's Early Printers and Printing in the Canada. [4 pp.] Laid paper, very good condition. This leaflet is one of the earliest legal documents pertaining to the distillation of alcohol in Canada. The still tax was set at 1 shilling and 3 pence per gallon but importantly, a minimum 10 gallon limit was set on the still size with a £10 penalty for infringement. Within a period of seven years, 51 licences (2 shillings and 6 pence per licence) were issued to a population of less than 15,000 people. Seller Inventory # 101173
