About this Item

Text in German; A nice, fine copy bound in white pictorial boards and issued without a DJ. Presumed 1st edition with no additional printings listed; The Wasagymnasium was the premier place for the attendance of Vienna's Jewish students with the school having a 70 percent Jews in 1900 and 50 percent in 1938 . When the Nazis took over Austria that year they forced all the students out and turned the buildings over for Nazi use. In 2003 the author Renate Mercsanits started a project to document the fate of the dispersed students. Notable students included authors Stefan Zweig and Felix Salten (of Bambi fame) as well as Ari Rath, editor of the Jerusalem Post, and Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel. A total of 51 former students responded to the request for information on their fate after leaving the school, and these responses became the basis for this book and the history of the school, Illustrated, 8vo., 193 pages., 0.0 0.0 0.0.
