two single-page letters written in a neat, legible hand. good condition, with a few edge tears [shipping charges will be reduced when this order is processed] James MacQueen was born in Crawford, Lanarkshire in 1778. He was a manager of sugar plantation in Grenada before the age of 20, and later founder of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, a writer on economics, politics and geography. The first letter is dated September 9th 1843, with the subject matter highlighting the importance of New Orleans as 'the natural outlet' for the great country of the United States of America. it is written on the blank pages of a two-sided printed document "Annual Statement of the New Orleans Price-Current, Commercial Intelligencer and Merchants' Transcript". The second letter is dated February 16th 1844, replyin to questions asked by MacQueen in a letter he sent to Hewes in November of the previous year. Seller Inventory # NEWORLEA041092
