Binding is worn, unevenly faded, small chips and tears on the spine, minor re-glue, but solid. The book is missing the front free end papers, the title page is glued to the inside front cover. Other then that the interior of the book is mostly clean and intact with no marks or previous owner's names. Thomas Johnson writes of "twenty-eight years a slave in Virginia, afterwards, at forty years of age, a student in Spurgeon's College, Missionary in Africa, Evangelist in England.".
