Description [8], 355, [1] pages; [6] plates; 23 cm. Preface dated at Winnipeg, Nov, 1915. VG+ condition in green cloth hardcover with gilt lettering to front cover and spine. The author was an Icelandic-Canadian editor, essayist and lecturer - editor of the Icelandic-Canadian Journal Aldamot (The Turn of the Century), published from 1891-1903. This journal was sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church but was nevertheless a literary journal, containing , lectures, aticles and book reviews. When Bergmann, a liberal theologian, parted ways with his more conservative colleagues, he founded the journal, Briedablik (Broad View, 1906-1914). He also wrote, compiled and translated other works. The author discussses the controversy in the Icelandic-Canadian Lutheran church around the turn of the century, which came to a head in 1909 at a church convention in Winnipeg - it caused a persistent rift in the Icelandic Synod.
