Wrappers. Spine worn, covers rather marked, pp.[1]-2 detached. Second Oxford University Press printing (first published in an Acting Edition by H.J. Goulden for the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral, 1948, then the same year by OUP), with the numerous manuscript notes and markings of Derek Stanford. On the last blank, "The 1st thing to recognise in understanding Fry is that he is both a playwright and a poet; not sometimes one, and sometimes the other, but both together; by nature synchronized . . ." Stanford, who served with Fry in the Non-Combatant Labour Corps during the Second World War (Fry contributed to Stanford's corps magazine that was banned), capitalised on his wartime colleague's West End success with The Lady's Not for Burning by writing three books on him in three years, Christopher Fry: an appreciation (1951), Christopher Fry Album (1952) and, for the National Book League's British Council series, Christopher Fry (1954).
