Volume1 is inscribed 'With the Author's compliments' and has a small pencil sketch og Hobhouse tipped in on the front free endpaper. This is dated 25 July 1848. Charles Wentworth George Howard was the 9th child of George 6th Earl of Carlisle and Georgina, daughter of the Duke of Devonshire. Georgina was Caroline Lamb's cousin and the 5th Earl of Carlisle, C.
