About this Item
Japanese stab binding, dated from the ?Fourth Year of Meiji,' or 1871. A collection of woodblock prints, conservatively colored in shades of gray, brown, orange, and red. With a winter motif, and a table of contents in Japanese. These ephemeral collections of Ukiyo-e would be sold in the streets of larger towns, although their quality, production, and sales were in steep decline during the Meiji period of modernization and globalization. The title has tentatively been translated as ?A Thousand Joys,' and the author tentatively translated as ?Suzuki ---' although the calligraphic font used in titling lends doubt to the translation. 22 leaves. Original paper wrappers. Price and presumed titling labels on the front cover, with a printed illustration of a dragon fly. We believe it to be Volume 5 in a series. Very Good binding.
