Add to baskethardcover, 6½" x 9½", with dust jacket 182 pages This is a colourful account of the history, planning and construction of the Thames Barrier; from the early 1950s, when the disasterous floods of 1953 suddenly awoke London and Londers to the terrible dangers they faced from the Thames, to the early 1980s with the barrier at last built and functional; in between were 20 years of debate and investigation and 10 years during which construction began. Many of the difficulties met and overcome are detailed. Many black-and-white photographs, suppliers advts at rear. Front endpaper removed. Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stamps, stickers, & barcode. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket.
