8vo (215 x 140 mm). Pp. 200 (incl. Appendix, Principal events in the life of Mahatma Gandhi). With full page b/w illustrated photo. frontispiece of Mahatma Gandhi Among his People, September 1939. Introduction by the author dated London, January, 1945. Original illustrated thin card covers. Staple bound. Covers dusty looking with stain marks from rusty staples showing. Crease mark to corners and short closed tear to fore edge of upper cover. Title page shows staining arond the staple but all sound. Previous owners pencil inscription dated 1946 to verso of upper cover, and pencil signature to top edge of title page, otherwise in good clean sound condition. ** The author mentions in the introduction that the reason for writing this book was that there were at the time no biography of Gandhi that he could find that carries the narrative beyond 1931, and none that carries it so far satisfactory. This is the story of the life long attempt of a very courageous and gifted man to embody his visions of truth, his faith in non violence, his perception of the need for a natural self discipline.
