In very good condition. Minimal wear to boards, if any. Light crushing to end bands, not atypical. Gilt work remains bright and clean. Front gutter lightly cracked with remnants of old cloth at middle. Light offsetting from photo engraving frontispiece. Gilt top edge. Red book marker frayed at end. Light toning to edge of textblock. Free of ownership or markings. Binding tight and intact. A very sound copy! Gift-worthy. Please see photos. Superbly designed and bound book of travel. The book is divided into six sections: Western Switzerland; Eastern Switzerland; The Upper Rhine; The Middle Rhine and Main; The Great Rhine Gorge and The Lower Rhine. The author states in his preface that "during a very long period, Switzerland and the Alps have been among the most beautiful regions sought by millions of tourists from all parts of the world. They display the greatest scenic attractions of Europe in their grandest form, and especially for American visitors have a special charm.in going or coming, the noble Rhine, the Great river of the German Fatherland, is usually followed, up or down, and thus becomes a part of the popular Swiss tour.".
