Carmel-by-the-sea KZ-112. Spoken Word. LP. 12'. 33RPM. Susan Porter was a storyteller by trade, known as as the 'Story Teller' of Big Sur (from the sleeve). She lived in Big Sur, California from the 1930's until her death in 1964. Porter was of Irish decent, and was profoundly influenced by her heritage and the mythology. A 1978 KPFA folio, produced by Padraigin McGillicuddy, says: 'Somewhere in the 50s, she made a record of some of her Irish stories. Of particular interest is the role of women as portrayed in this ancient culture.' The sleeve features a photo by Edward Weston, who lived nearby in Carmel, California during the same period.
