About this Item

Historical commemoration of the presentation of a statue of Cherokee Sequoyah by the state of Oklahoma to stand in the U.S. Congress' Statuary Hall in Washington, D. C. It was sculpted by a woman, Vinnie Ream Hoxie, who died before this presentation, & the first statue in this collection to portray a Native American. A FIRST EDITION, likely First Printing, from 1924 of the proceedings of the 65th Congress (June 6, 1917, this book was issued in a limited printing of 5000 copies to be distributed solely to Senators & Representatives. The present copy bears the stamp of Oklahoma congressman Lyle H. Boren. It is a hardcover with deep navy cloth-covered boards & gilt lettering to front & spine, which has nearly all been rubbed away. In 66 pages, with an illustrative frontispiece of the statue. Book is in VG condition: very clean, binding straight & strong, pages moderately but evenly tanned.
