8vo [20 x 13 cm]; xviii, [i, errata leaf], 414 pp, folding colored map, 5 plates including frontis, four of which are colored lithographs. contemporary half morocco, gilt spine title lettering, marbled endpapers, top edge gilted, edges a little rubbed, faint blind stamp to title, occasional marginal ink stamps, overall clean and very good with good impressions of the attractive plates. The author was a founder and president of the Alpine Club. Moreas I, 340: 'The author, a British tourist, first visited Rio on the way to Buenos Aires. He returned to Rio later, making excursions into the Sierra dos Orgaos, Petropolis, Therezopolis, and travelling to Juiz de Fora'. Sabin 31925: 'Highly commended by the Saturday Review'. Naylor 106.
