Hard cover with black leather spine and corners, marbled boards, gilt titles and decorations on spine with 5 raised ridges, and only very minor wear with some sun-related fading mostly on the rear board. Each volume has a colour frontispiece showing: bohemian peasants near Toplitz, and Hungarian peasants, respectively, with vii, 365 and viii, 371 clean pages. There is a book plate inside front cover - presentation from Miss May to Bath Public Reference Library, but none of the usual lending library stamps.
