Uncolored map which had been issued as Plate 2 of Moses Greenleaf's rare Atlas Accompanying Greenleaf's Map and Statistical Survey of Maine. Excellent condition, with a small chip at the lower left corner with loss of 1 cm. of the straight line border. Published by Shirley & Hyde of Portland. This was one of the key maps used to try to settle the boundary of the United States and Canada along Maine's northern border. This map demonstrates what Greenleaf believed to be the true line of highlands in Northern Maine as delineated by Joseph Bouchette in 1815. Map 3 of the atlas showed what Greenleaf presented as imaginary ranges of highlands put forth by British surveyors. Thompson 30-b. Seller Inventory # m01637
