green art nouveau-decorated cloth, introduction by G. L. Strachey, cloth a bit rubbed and shelfworn, 300pp. First published in 1791, this novel slipped into obscurity. Strachey rates it well above Fanny Burney's Evelina, for example. Interesting association copy, with bookplate of poet Geoffrey Phibbs, sometime lover of Robert Graves' ex-wife.
