Hardcover with dustjacket, first American printing of this novel about the beginnings of the herring industry on the coasts of Scotland, book is quite attractve, the bright blue cloth binding with gold title is bright and clean as new, the blank end-papers are slightly tanned and the former owner's name is present, mild creasing is present on pages 125-175, a bit heavier corner-creasing present on pages 195-213, the creases are not as heavy as dog-eared pages usually are so apparently the book was closed carelessly, there are no other book flaws, the jacket has heavy chipping at the spine-tips, one edge-chip on the rear panel, spine is slightly tanned, some wear at the top corners and along the folds, the jacket is clean and presentable despite ther flaws with the front panel and flaps looking the nicest, the original price (3.00) is present and a professional (removable) mylar cover is included.
