About this Item

Near Fine in Very Good Pictorial Dust Jacket with original price ($2.75). An important novel from Hostovsky (1908-1973), one of the most distinctive figures in Czech prose as well as one of the most prolific. His novel "The Arsonist " won the Czechoslovak State Prize for Literature in 1936. "Seven Times the Leading Man" is set in Prague, before WW II, deftly bringing to life the convulsions of European society as it marched lockstep toward the oncoming nightmares of the War. Translated from the Czech by Fern Long. With laid in errata slip ("Through an unfortunate error the translator's name was omitted from the title page"). Grey cloth with maroon titling. Dust Jacket is clean and bright, shows light wear, with corners bumped, sunning to spine, edge wear at top, wear at top of spine with mild loss, mild soiling on rear. Previous owner's name and address at free front endpaper; otherwise interior is clean, crisp, tight & bright, unmarked. 251 pp. Approx. 5.25" x 8.25". A very nice copy. Carefully shipped in secure parcel. Ask all questions; glad to respond. Bookseller Inventory # 501062
