About Sell Books
We operate from a floor of a former textile mill in Yorkshire, as well as sourcing books from the London area where we also have a secondhand bookshop selling the books that are too low value to sell online. Our books come from a variety of sources, from house clearances to collecting the books charity shops don't want (where we pay the charities several times what other book recycling providers offer them), and many more. We're a small team - usually around a dozen staff spread between the a couple in the shop, a few in the Yorkshire warehouse, some sorting the books in London into what we want for online and what's for the shop or recycling, and on the road collecting them. We started as a part time hobby for our founder, originally after his university were throwing away books from their library. He then moved on to buying from charity shops to resell, before taking on staff in 2019 to do the same (this continued until mid 2024 when a temporary cash crunch meant we had to pause this side of the business), in 2020 we started to collect in bulk from charities, and later started doing house clearances. We opened our shop in Stoke Newington in late 2024 where we sell books for 4 for £10, and sometimes have fill a bag sales. Our online sales are truly global, with about 40% of our sales by value being outside the United Kingdom, mostly going to Europe. We send any books over 10 GBP/EUR via tracked services, and sometimes ones below that price. We're always keen to talk to other professional booksellers in person, if you're going to be in London or Yorkshire send a message and we can grab a drink and talk shop.
