Octavo. In two volumes with 3 large folding maps. Vol. I: frontispiece, 360pp. and 1 large folding map and Vol. II: 456pp. with 2 large folding maps. Boyce's work is a "history of France during the Spring of 1815.relating the events of the short, yet glorious campaign which effected the deliverance of Europe". While there had been several books written about Napoleon, the English viewed Boyce's work as a fair and impartial book based on fact. Bound by Zaehnsdorf in full red polished calf trimmed in gilt, raised bands pictorially stamped within compartments depicting a bee, eagle and N with a crown above, double green morocco spine labels gilt, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers, a couple of stains to upper boards, text clean and bright with a little off-setting to facing pages of maps. vol. 1 with joints and head cosmetically repaired. From the library of Alfred S. Austrian (1870-1932) who was a Chicago lawyer for the White Sox. Comiskey was aided and abetted by Austrian during the Black Sox Affair. And, of collector Walter L.
