Calf bound book on the topic of the ancient latin writers of rural affairs (Cato, Varro and Columella Palladius). In addition to the engraved frontispiece there are four folding plates (image). Ribbed spine with faded title band and decorative gilt patterning - with some of the surface leather frayed at the head and tale. The boards feature only mild edge wear; other than at the joints with the spine. Condition (internal): the main condition-related issue is the level of tanning (and more occasional spotting). The pages are tanned throughout; sometimes heavily, although the text remains legible (see image of one of the most heavily tanned pages). FFep has a previous seller's note in pencil and includes a reference to this book being 'ex-libris Ripley Castle.' Dedicated to King George II of Great Britain by Io.
