One volume from a set that had several tomes, each tome with two parts. This is one of the more interesting tomes and parts for the modern collector interested in the military history of the 18th century. Text of this volume begins with a dictionary of military terms and continues with a long treatise on "De L'Art De La Guerre" (The Art of War). One of the highlights of this section is a listing of regiments of Dragoons in all countries including France. This volume partly darkened by a long ago fire at head of spine and along top and edges of front and back covers. Joints cracked but hinges firm and so book is still tight. Quite clean internally and pages of text are still supple. Bookplate on first free flyleaf (marbled paper) of Virginia Randolph Skinkle which has as its illustration the family crest of the famous Randolph family of Virginia. It would be interesting if this volume could be traced back to ownership by one of the Randolphs of the mid 18th centuiry. One of the Randolphs was an aide to General Washington during the Revolutionary War. Size: Octavo, pp 357-772. Bookseller Inventory # 2916
