About this Item
MARSH, John B. THE STORY OF HARECOURT. Being The History Of An Independent Church. With An Introduction by the Rev. Alexander Raleigh. London: Strahan & Co., 1871. 12mo., decorative purple cloth, stamped in black & gilt; 245 pages plus 10-page catalogue. With an advertisement for another Strahan publication tipped to the front endpaper. Fold-out chart on genealogy of Rev. John Cokayne bound in the rear of the text (as issued). With four illustrations and a frontispiece listed on the Illustrations page but there is no frontispiece in this copy. The Cokayne family dates back to the time of William The Conqueror and was widely settled in the Derbyshire area of England. With the ink name on a front blank page: "Geo. Copestake's, Hulland [Derbyshire], Aug. 1871." Also with the name of Dr. [John Cokayne] Copestake, Wyoming, Stark County, Illinois, North America" on the verso of the front endpaper. Obviously, a copy handed-down within descendants of the Cokayne family. Good (wear & fading spine & portion rear cover, lower rear corner worn through to the boards; contents pretty clean & tight with little cracking hinges but still tight). Rare and with a interesting association! $275.00. Seller Inventory # 3305
