Pp. 5 p.l., 3-281, , lxxx, 283-481, , 501-883, , 835 (ie. 885)-940, table. Engraved frontispiece of portrait medalions, engraved portrait of Livy on title, two engraved maps of Rome, one double-page engraved plan of the Roman and Carthaginian forces at the Battle of Cannae (facing p. 338). Bound in contemporary mottled calf, later rebacked with elaborately gilt panelled spine between raised bands, morocco label, gilt, corners restored, endpapers renewed. Surfaces and extremities a bit worn, front joint a little tender, armorial bookplate on pastedown, marginal wormtrack through first several leaves, just touching engraved material but remaining clear of text; but generally a nice clean copy in a handsomely restored binding. The famous English translation by Philemon Holland was first published in 1600, later reprinted with the supplements of John Freinshemius and John Dujatius in 1659, and finally reissued (1686) in an updated form by Edmund Bohun (1645-169 9), with the addition of engraved material.
