About this Item
Hard copy file of Reuters telegrams from the Alexandria Office, correspondent G.C.Delany, covering the period 1st January to 31st March 1917. Presumably one volume of many but never-the-less an unusual and scarce item, recently rebacked with the original spine relaid. Fascinating reading, the following shorter item being an example - Reuter's Telegram Company Limited, Alexandria Branch, Bulletin No.64 - LONDON 3rd January. The Minister of Munitions is taking over at current quotations all unwrought copper hitherto uncontracted for. LONDON 3rd January. The Leyland Liner "Nestoria" has become a total wreck in a fog. The crew have been saved. LONDON 3rd January. Rasputin's end is a blow to mediaevalism. He excercised a malignant influence on Russian society even on the court and he was known to be a leading pro-German. According to a Petrograd message, three bullet wounds were found in Rasputin's head and breast. He was killed at Petrograd in the house of one of the most aristocratic families in Russia, after which his body was conveyed to the mouth of the Neva in a motorcar and dropped through the ice. The names of the assistants at this deed are generally known. The whole of Russia breathes more freely at the removal of a man of baneful influence and notorious depravity and of one who was universally execrated. 3rd edition, Alexandria, 4th January 1917.
