Description:

A Fine copy (tiny wear, spine lightly browned -- no dust jacket, as issued) of the scarce Limited Edition SIGNED BY WILLIAM MCFEE on the Limitation Page tipped-in by the Publisher. Only 100 copies were printed and they were reserved for Doubleday's "friends among the Bookmen" and this is the only limited first edition of which no copies were for sale, this copy being number 39. A British-born seaman (born, in fact, on a ship), McFee emigrated to the United States and rose to become the head of United Fruit Company, on whose ships he had sailed. He resigned in 1924, when he turned to full-time writing. Known mainly for his books of the sea, in Race, he portrayed middle-class life in late 19th Century London. ".it is an extraordinary thing, this problem of race." A very scarce copy published for private distribution and SIGNED BY WILLIAM MCFEE. Bookseller Inventory #
