A propaganda booklet extolling on the increase of public education available to citizens of the Soviet Union, particularly when compared to what was available under "tsarist Russia". "Seventy-three percent of the population of tsarist Russia (exclusive of children under nine years of age) was illiterate. at present, illiteracy has in the main been wiped out in the U. S. S. R. In twenty years of Soviet rule, 40,000,000 adults were taught to read and write." The booklet also provides statistics on the amount of school age children who attended school in tsarist Russia and in the U. S. S. R. Additionally it discusses the two previous five year plans for public education education the government had completed and continues on to provided details on the third five year plan which would run from 1938-1942 It states on the title page that the author, O. Leonova, is a "member of the Supreme Soviet of the U. S. S. R. Teacher of Merit". There are five (5) black and white photographs in the booklet of school children in various locations around the Soviet Union. 23 pgs. Illustrated wrappers. Staple binding.
