About this Item
Bibliography No. 1. "Tentative edition". As per Denis Godfrey [The Enchanted Door, 1963, p.51]: "An important bibliography of its kind is P. W. Laidler's 'The Pre-Victorian Products of the Cape Press, 1796 - 1837', published by the South African Library Association in 1935. It is a chronological bibliography with annotations of all civil products of the Cape Press, and lists more than 800 items. The association issued it in mimeographed form as a tentative move 'to afford colleagues and collectors opportunity to note omissions and mistakes'. As they remark: What bibliography is without them? That was in 1935. Mistakes and all, it is still the only standard work". Plain stiff A4-sized card boards with title and name of compiler handwritten in blue to front and printed in black to spine. 105pp. unmarked and undiscoloured except for isolated spotting the more so to pp. 87 - 96 at the edges. No ownership markings or stamps. Extremely scarce Africana. Seller Inventory # 000643
