About this Item
Paris, after 1784. Printed sheet (20.6 x 12.5 cm). Printed surface ca. 15 x 9 cm. = A nice, oval engraved portrait, "en profil", after a drawing by the Danish artist and engraver Johan Frederik Clemens (1748-1831) and engraved by the famous French engraver and cartographer Ambroise Tardieu (1788-1841). "Today, he is best remembered for the over 800 engraved portraits produced during his career, many of which render famous scientists from that period" (Curtis Shuh's bibliography of mineralogy). Trembley (1710-1784) was a famous Swiss Zoologist, best known for his "Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire d'un genre de polypes d'eau douce". The French caption records Trembley's place in the scientific world and his years of birth and death. Some, mostly marginal foxing, otherwise very good. Seller Inventory # 36253
