3 vols., 8vo. With the half-titles. Original green cloth decorated in black and gilt; inner hinges partly cracked and with slight wear to the spine ends. First edition, although an American reprinting of the much shorter serial publication of the title story appeared in 1878. "Poor Zeph" is a young woman brought to suicide by the heartless attentions of a conniving middle-class man. Other stories include "Love on Four Wheels" about a London cabbie, "The Barmaid of Battleton," "The Romance of a Back Street," and "Othello the Second."
