Born in India, Merivale (1886-1946) was an actor of stage and screen, appearing in the London and Broadway productions of The Scarlet Pimpernel in 1910, and the first film version of Trilby in 1914. In the 1940s and 1940s he appeared in films directed by Alfred Hitchock and Orson Welles. He also wrote screenplays and plays. This historical drama was his third published play.
