This is a large, beautiful, coffee-table book, with a history of the Papacy in 26 chapters, Copyright page say, "Westmonasterii, die 26a Feb. 1964;" the book was printed in Switzerland. 304 pages, plain beige, buckram boards with gilt-stamped spine print; text is illustrated with more than fifty full-color and several hundred B&W drawings, paintings and photographs, endpapers have a two-page drawing or engraving of the Vatican with its huge circular court. Boards are clean and straight, text is clean and unmarked throughout. Dust jacket is off-white with a color photo of a sculpture of Urban VIII by Bernini; the back has an aerial view of Vatican City in B&W. Front top corner of the DJ is clipped, though oddly, the price is printed in the middle of the flap, more than 1/2" from where the corner is clipped at the diagonal (original price $25.00). DJ is very slightly darkened at the edges, has rubbed spine ends with a very tiny chip at the top spine end, but no other chips or tears. The book has a sleight musty odor at the time of listing, as it had been stored in a garage.
