FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 4.25 x 6.25 inches. vi + 137 pp. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt with blind stamped decoration and borders on boards. All edges gilt. Extremities worn, repaired split at top of spine and front hinge starting to crack. A good interior. Inscription, William Congreve; Prize for 'Speaking.' Xmas, 1846. Illustrated by engraved frontispiece and by numerous vignette engravings in text. Moral tales for children with words of more than one syllable hyphenated. Bourne Hall Draper (1775-1843) was a Baptist minister who published numerous Bible and moral stories for teaching children. The title is scarce in the original format of the first edition.
