Shanghai n.d. ca 1930-40, Pan. A stiff white trade card,text in both English & Chinese, printed one side only, 10 x 7 cm. very clean, with 2 illustrations, obscure item. This is a fascinating card. . Not only is Mr. Pan a skilled wood carver of rose wood furniture and inlaid items, he also worked on carved picture frames, sculptures and "also painting done honestly and true prices asked. If any fault is found in the articles sold they may be returned within seven days unless damaged meanwhile. Every article marked at fixed price CLOSED SUNDAYS" Mr. Pan was a Christian and went to church on Sunday, therefore he was closed ! . Selling items at a fixed price in China was rare. Being closed on Sunday was a firm indication that Mr. Pan was a Christian, and an ethical business man. This is an exceptional person. Hitherto no Chinese sellers marked prices on anything, and prices were subject to the whim of the seller. No, not Mr. Pan, he had learned his Christian attitudes well and surely applied them to his business, nice ethics including return privileges ! Very Rare in the "Caveat Emptor" Chinese port city arena for wary foreigners. * Mr. Pan also shows two medallions on his business card: a. EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE, Liege 1905 b.
