"THE OLD MAN AND THE DEVILS" - book No. 7 from the Japanese Fairy Tale Series. 1886; T. Hasegawa; Tokyo, Japan. The date on the inside front cover reads "Month 4, Day 27" 1886 (per Linda Lear Center Digital Collections and Exhibitions). String-bound softcover with 22 pages (including the covers). The book features wonderful woodblock prints in color on double-sided cloth (the pages are attached along the outer edge). The book is a Japanese Folktale "about an old man who had his lump taken or removed by demons (see the front cover illustration) after joining a party of demons celebrating and dancing in the night." Smaller in size - the book measures 6" tall x 4" wide. Condition: Clean front cover; there is some very light foxing on the back cover. The outer edge of the front cover has separated along the seam at the bottom half, and partly along the top half; the outer edge of the last page has a 1" strip at the outer seam where the cloth has separated. Both covers and all pages are firmly attached - the string binding is secure. Nice interior - the pages are mostly clean with only a few random pages that have a tiny foxing spot at the top edge.
