About this Item
Original illustrated wraps 13x19cm, 16pp. Undated, with references in the text up to March 1951. Very good, lightly creased to wraps, interiors tanned. The Union of Democratic Control was formed by ED Morel in 1914 to campaign for enlightened foreign policy. This paper by MP Harold Davies surveys the evolution of the Iranian oil industry from 1909 and developments in Saudi Arabia, up to the assassination of Premier Ali Ramzara, and nationalisation of the oil industry. He argues against military action, urging the Labour Government to seek an international agreement in oil through the UN, and negotiation on transitioning to Iranian ownership while ensuring a fair oil price for Britain.
