FIRST EDITION. Folio. Contemp. three-quarter lea. with marbled boards, rebacked and corners renewed. (10), (19)-40, (9)-15, (1, blank), 41-73, (47) pp. (Erratic pagination due to misbound signatures.) Twenty-two duo-tone lithographed plates. PRESENTATION COPY to American chemist and geologist, T. Sterry Hunt (1826-92), who invented the green ink with which American paper money is printed (1859), and conducted researches in chemistry and mineralogy. The half-title has the printed presentation on behalf of Rouault's executors and a manuscript inscription to Hunt as a member of the Geological Commission of Canada. Minor old edge repairs to half-title, uniformly lightly browned; a nearly very good copy. The main memoir in this handsome posthumous publication of the French paleontologist, Marie Rouault (d. 1881), is 'Les Amorphozoaires du terrain silurien de la Bretagne' (1878) with the associated duo-tone lithographs of the fossils from the author's drawings. Rouault was the founder and director of the Musée Géologique of Rennes and specialized on the paleobotany of Brittany. Bookseller Inventory #
