A book describing the Oberammergau Passion Play's history with notes. The Passion Play was first performed in 1634. "According to local legend, the play is performed every ten years because of a vow made by the inhabitants of Oberammergau that if God spared them from the effects of the bubonic plague then sweeping the region, they would perform a passion play every ten years." (Wikipedia) 4to, white cloth boards, with gilt and red titles and decoration on front, covered in original brown cloth (no titles), 46pp, b&w illustrations. Cloth cover dusty and bumped on edges. Boards slt dusty at bottom edge, internally clean. Seller Inventory # 27674
