About this Item

A very nice copy inside and out of this hard to find early novel by Hamilton Basso. The dust jacket in almost as-new condition and it is not price clipped. Now protected of course in mylar removable covering. Small corner bump and bit of cloth wear at corner tip, but on whole the book is also almost fresh. Does not appear to have been read. A depression era novel of conflict between the old South of the aristocracy and a new south feeling the pressures of modern life. One of the characters an artist who is out of place in the Aiken, South Carolina winter colony for the wealthy. Hamilton Basso was born in New Orleans and was a contributor to the now legendary New Orleans Double Dealer magazine. In later life he moved north and became an associate editor at The New Yorker. Size: Octavo, 317pp. Bookseller Inventory # 2750
