8vo. 6 x 8.75 inches. xv + [v] + 310 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge chips, including head and tail of spine. Stains on spine and rear board but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 24 pages of drawn plates, including frontispiece and by map in text. Map endpapers. Reprint in the same month of first publication. The first volume of the author's trilogy, this is the story of the survivors of H.M.A.S. Perth, after she was sunk by Japanese forces in the Sunda Strait, following the allied defeat at the Battle of the Java Street in March 1942.
