Large illustrated edition. Demy 4to (11.5 x 8 ins); [iv] + 636 pp; 20 colour plates, by Geoffroy, including the frontispiece (Racine, one or two lacking tissue-guards. Half dark green speckled morocco over marbled boards, gilt panels to spine with gilt lettering direct onto the spine. Edges of spine and extremities of boards slightly rubbed with a chip to head of spine, top hinge somewhat tender. Scattered splotches of foxing, heavy in places, though not affecting the plates, which remain really bright and clean, Text in French. Top edge of the pages gilt, some uncut. A handsome copy.
