"New Choice Selections from Ancient Mercuries and other Newspapers." (English translation). Text is in French. Tome Treizieme and Quatorzieme, Seconde Annee, Tome Premiere and Second. Includes 12 page article (in French) on the pioneering work of Robert Hooke on microscopy. Short introduction to the article is in English on Hooke's classic work Micrographia, the article being an extract from the journal of the Royal Society in London. This book was part of a set of learned articles in the arts and sciences published in the French periodical Mercury and other early French newspapers. Leather covers with moderate wear but the leather spine with five raised bands is very attractive and well preserved. Spine is gilt embellished. Binding tight and contents are quite clean with some age browning in places. Makeshift removeable covering of clear plastic is neatly done. Size: Octavo, 240, 251pp. Bookseller Inventory # 2696
