A detailed map of Asia Minor and neighboring parts of the Mediterranean, Aegean and Black Seas, showing parts of Greece, the Island of Cyprus, Rhodes, etc. Middle East, Turkey, Greece & the Holy Land. Jocodus Hondius the Elder (1563-1612) was a prominent geographer and engraver of his time. His work established Amsterdam as the center of cartographic publishing in the 17th century. Seeking religious freedom, he fled to London in 1584, later returning to Amsterdam, but maintaining ties with English mapmakers such as John Speed. The text is in English. "Hondius his Map of Asia Minor" appears above the map impression mark. 6 x 7.25" on a larger sheet with text, which is trimmed. Black & white, as issued. Small loss to top left corner not affecting text. Seller Inventory # 27833
