Some heavy dampstains and foxing to dust wrapper. Small chips to ends of dust wrapper spine. Dust wrapper protected in archival mylar cover. Moderate rubbing and marks to rear board. Internally very good. Ink number on front endpaper. ; This copy with a nice inscription by the author on the half-title page: "To W Vance. I like this book because through the generosity of the publisher, Mr Harrap, we were able to make it a handsome production Johannes C. Andersen 29 Sept. 1945". [ii], 468 pages + 16 colour plates (including frontispiece) + b&w plates + 1 folding map. Decorative cloth boards. Page dimensions: 219 x 149mm. This copy from the collection of William Vance (1901-1981) of Timaru, New Zealand, a historian and book collector. It is signed "W. Vance Timaru" on the half-title page. Vance is listed in C. R. H. Taylor's "Roll of Book Collectors in New Zealand" (1958): "This collection of about 2,000 volumes has been discerningly gathered, and the New Zealand section specialises in South Island material."
