About this Item
25 b/w (chromatic) plates except for the frontispiece - Column on the March - which is in colour. Featuring a range of first world war scenarios from patrols to hospital scenes and including the painting, 'La Mitrailleuse.' The style is futuristic: the impact is immediate and profound, abstract and realistic. There is an introductory essay by the art critic, P. G. Konody. The frontispiece is signed faintly (in pencil?) by the artist. Condition: sound but fragile and with a number of condition-related issues. Edgewear and some staining/marking on the green boards. The cloth at the head of the spine in particular has detached from the reverse side of the book block (<35mm). Internally, heavily tanned and spotted in places; especially on the preliminary and final pages (see image example). The plates are generally much less affected in this way; with the tanning more confined to the page margins. Tipped in ex-libris sticker on front pastedown. Ink signature on ffep (dated 1933). Limited photos due to tight binding/fragility. Tissue guard for frontispiece. pp. 79/4to (+/-). Please note that, depending on destination, we may request an additional payment to cover any extra shipping/postage charges. Proceeds to Amnesty International. Abe2340.
